    add sharepoint list items .. for dummies?

    hello!

    i know there is already a thread on this topic, but this one got a little .. large, and i wasn't really able to get the information i was looking for.

    i got an existing infopath03 form with a submit button. on click it should take some data-field values and create a new item in a sharepoint list.

    now, what do i need to get this working, step-by-step?

    of course i have already read matt's blog entry on the topic, but i wasn't able to get this working for me.. i don't really understand why we need that CAML script and how it needs to be customized; which values need to match names in the list or the ones in the form. :S .. i mean, i don't understand how how i define which infopath-fields to assign to which list-item-values, in the tutorials they always only seem to specify one side.

    (but i would imagine this to look something like this;
    my:First_Name -> FirstName
    my:E_Mail -> EMail
    my:Zip -> WorkZip
    etc. )

    can someone explain the mode of operation to me, again, and/or tell me what exactly i need to do?

    regards

    Hi Fabian,

     I agree that this is not the easiest thing in the world to do.  I would suggest that you create a very simple test form that uses the plain vanila CAML and get it working.  Then, once you understand things more clearly you can move on to getting it to work in your custom solution.

    Hi Matt,

    Within my CAML code I have a field "AssignedTo:" with the intent to send that person an email when they are assigned an action item. My form submits everything to SharePoint Lists. How do I get notification to the User in the AssignedTo text box?

    Thanks!

    Well, the example from your blog does work, the problem is I don't have any idea what I'm doing...

    Hi Jack,

    Try adding an E-mail submit data connection, and then querying it whenever your form is done submitting to SharePoint.

    Gallium,

    I don't know what to tell you... Just take baby steps, and you should be able to get all the way through the tutorial and figure it out!

    Re: add sharepoint list items .. for dummies?

    Hi Matt,

    I have the submit email working. But know I have a problem with my Action Items list.

    I was having trouble setting the properties for my text boxes assigned to the same Fields within the same CAML so I broke the CAML down into separate batch files and placed a table inside a repeating section with six rows and 2 columns. I don't know if this was the right thing to do but it seemed to be the only way to differentiate my text boxes.

    But now when I submit the Action Item to a SharePoint list it creates 6 rows with the input from the Form on submit staggered from left to right in each column.

    Any suggestions? Also can you tell me if every column in SharePoint needs to be a single line of text or can InfoPath have a drop down list box that interacts with the choice type in SharePoint?

     Thanks!
