    submit/save button

So I have a form that submits to a sharepoint library.  This form has more then one person edit/looks at it and i want the submit button to turn into a save button once it is submitted.

so theres a couple of ways to do this, i see:

    1. figure out what the form name is and create an overwrite data connection to overwrite the old form.

    2. somehow code the botton to submit and then save?

I think the first one is probably the easiest, does anyone know how to figure out the name of a form in the onload event?

also, when a user submits the form it is tied to the now() function so its kinda unknown what the submit name is going to be.

     Thanks

This can be a bit complex until you have done it a couple times.

Here is one link that can get you down the path.

Ultimately you can create a dataconnection to the form library and query all of the documents in it.  Then you can identify the form you wish to overwrite and change the name of the current form to match and therefore overwrite. You can have a rule on open that performs this function.

I am a bit confused by the submit and save.  When you submit to SharePoint you are saving the form into the library.  Do you mean to save it somewhere else? Or do you mean to lock the form from editing at some point? Either of these is simple to do.

Hope this gets you started.  I could make a blog post on this but I think most of it has been covered before.

i am trying to turn the submit button into a save button once the user has submitted the form to the form libaray.  That way when someone opens the form again they just have to hit the save button to save the changes.

As long as you have overwrite allowed, if a user opens an existing form from a form library, modifies it and resubmits the form, the library is updated and overwrites the previous version.  You can turn on versioning on the library to have access to previous ones if this is needed.

That was what confused me before because I thought you were describing standard functionality.  Submit to SharePoint is just saving the form into the Form Library whether initially or as an update.  Allowing Overwrite would be the only thing that could limit this process.
