I have a form that have many fields pertaining to only certain countries; however the list of countries if often greater than 10.  I've tried using data validations and/or conditional formatting with 'or' statements but I believe this is limited to 5 entries.  I would like to know if I can store the countries that are used for the data validations in another countrol so that I only have one statement in the Conditional Formatting/Data Validation section for each control.  Any guidance that you can give would be appreciate.

 Example:

Field Tax ID is only used in 'US', 'GB', 'ES', 'FR','IT', 'MX', 'BR', 'SE', 'AT', 'NL', 'AR', 'IE', 'JP', 'CL', 'MC', 'PE', 'CO'

 I would prefer to only show Tax ID for these countries to avoid confusion.

This is a great example for having a secondary data source. Create a list or table of the tax id's and probably the amounts.  Then when a user selects a country you would have a rule on the tax calculation that would match it to the list and return the amount. If it was not found on the list then the default of 0 would be used.  You could have this list in SharePoint or as a simple XML file and link it in as a data connection and then reference the fields in your form.

There is a little trick how you can have up to 30 condition for your conditional formatting or data validation. Assuming you use conditional formattig first select set your condition like usual "If field1 equalt to sampleText". Now switch the first drop down list to "The expression". On the right side you now have something like the internal representation of your rule  and you can add many others just delimited by OR or AND.

Well, I've tried both solutions to no avail....

 Clay, I am actually not wanting to return a tax value but if the country field is US then I will show the tax field.  If the country isn't in my list then I want to hide that field.   However, I'm intrigued by your solution and may be able to use it elsewhere, could you give me a quick sample of what the rule would look like?

 In regards to "The Expression" solution, what is the syntax.  I tried this and the initial Expression showed:  my:Country = "US" 

so my thought for the adjusted syntax would be:  my:Country = "US" OR "MX" OR ....  This gave me an expected value end of string error message.

 Any thoughts?

It is the same principal either way.  If you only want to show the tax field for the US then you would put a confitional format for display that says if country is not equal to "US" then Hide.  You would use a list the same way.  If you have a list of countries to display tax for then you would create your list and data connection (countrylist) and then for the condition "if my:country != countrylist/country" hide the field.

If you have a tax amount for each country then you could just reference that data. If the country does not have a tax amount or are not listed hide the field.

Maybe a little more description of what you are doing would help.

You have to use something like my:Country = US or my:Country = MX or ... The easiest is use the second line of your conditional formatting set your conditions with the dropdown list and swicht again to expression. like this you can create the correct expressions for all your condition and just append them to the first one.
