    Underlined in Drop Down Lists

When a value is chosen in a drop down list it's populated in the form as underlined.

How can I turn this off?

     P.S.  I'm using Infopath '03 version.

     Thanks

    Hi Aye Caramba,

Once check the conditional formatting on the field that you getting the underline. If the field is set to underline remove it.

    Hope this will help you.

In the properties section of the drop down list, the conditional formatting was not on.

     The underline was not checked.

    I don't know what's going on.

Re: Underlined in Drop Down Lists

After I preview the form to make a selection in the drop down list, and then print preview the form - the selected value is underlined (as well as when the form is printed)

Nowhere in the properties of the drop down list is the value underlined.

    Does that make sense?

P.S.  I wish I could print the screen and insert in this message so that you could see what I'm trying to say - I've been trying but I guess this forum doesn't allow it

Thanks - but that didn't help either.

I think it might require a conditional formatting event.

    Hi Caramba,

Hope no conditional formatting event or any thing will work. But if you get the solution please let me know.

    Aye Caramba! (cha cha cha)

This has to do with the way InfoPath renders drop-down list box controls for printing.  There is no way to get around this, but if it is really bothering you, you could make a Print View that translates the drop-down selections into Expression Boxes, which will show up without any underlining.  With this new Print View, you could also do any other formatting that you want different from the fill out view.

    Hey Matt -  Thanks

"you could make a Print View that translates the drop-down selections into Expression Boxes"

     How do I do that?

    Thanks

On your task bar select views and then on the very bottom click create print version for this view.

Now you have a new blank view for which you can create the layout form scratch that it fits best your printing requirements.

Regarding your drop down list you would drop an expressino box to your view, click the fx button on the right and then select insert field or group and point it to your ddl. there you go.

This print view is now associated to your actual view and when the user clicks print the print version will be printed.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the suggestion NUKK!

I did what you mentioned, however, when I created a new print view, I got a blank page.

Are you saying that now that I have this new blank page, I now have to re-create my entire 6 page form all over again in this print view, JUST so I don't get underlining in a selected value of a drop down list?  'cause if that's what you're saying, Dude!!!, lay off the motorhead.......

    :)

but seriously now, do I have to recreate the entire form or just simply drop 1 expression box for that particular field that I don't want underlined?  I did that (and yes, I defined which filed I wanted in the expression box) and nothing happened!

     Let me know -  Thanks

    and ROCK ON!!!

Re: Underlined in Drop Down Lists

Yes you should create print views for all of them. I mean you could just copy and paste your entire view (all ddl, controls, tables) and replace the ddl through expression boxes bind it to the same element than your ddl but that would mean that you have 6 additional views just for printing. But as Matt mentioned already there is now other way arround.

The only other idea I would have if that you use a custom print button and write some code. You could for example add expression boxes for each of your ddls (for example underneath them) and bind them like explained to the ddl values. Add an additional dummy control to your form (can be invisible). Now in your button event first fill your dummy control with a string (e.g. print) and afterwards call the print() method to print the view. Additionally you have to set conditional formatting to all of your ddls to hide them if dummy is equal to print.

Keep in mind, if i remember correctly you need to set your from to full trust in order to use the print method.

To be honest...I would life with the underlines.

You can just copy+paste the entire view, and then just change the few drop-downs that you want to remove the underlines for.  This really isn't that hard.
