    Newbie Q on IP2k3 + SPS 2k3 + Workflow

Guys, I'm running out of ideas here, please lightened me up :)
I need to do a document workflow using infopath. Infopath form will be hosted on SPS. All 2003 version. No Active Directory network, which is all workstation stands alone. This workflow approval consists of few level (3-4).

As fas as I know: I could use BizTalk for workflow and infopath's built-in user role (which is - correct me if I'm wrong - needs AD network)

So, how do I accomplish this? I tried to insert a manage code into the form to retrieve sharepoint's login, but end up with workstation local login name. How do I retrieve sharepoint's login (user who clicks "Fill this form" at SPS form library) so that I can inject them into Infopath form which in the end this login info can be re-send back to my webservice when they click submit?

Any comment would be appreciated, thank you before guys. I'm still new to infopath, so I'm kind of mis-understand the infopath-sps concept here.

    Hello and Welcome to InfoPathDev!

We have a HowTo written to retrieve user name from sharepoint
    http://www.infopathdev.com/howto/tutorials/default.aspx?i=06d94826ac7a46a09a0f68238c2e0769

But this is a bigger/tedious process.

Ups, so sorry I didn't notice the howto before I post here. It's quite tricky, thx :) I'll try it tomorrow (since now has already 2.30 AM)

Above the sharepoint's login user retrieval, I do have some concept to ask regarding to workflow:

    1. I've been successfully using UserRoles+Active Directory Network to accomodate my needs of workflow (routing, hidden section, different view). But when the form is opened from a Non-Domain workstation, infopath fails to identifies the required user role? Is User-Role can only works in a full Domain network? (full domain = all workstation join to domain) And one more thing I discovered, it will also fail if I access the SPS server through its IP address. I was wondering whether I've missed any required configurations here.

    2. If my network is not a full domain network, how's the best practise of implementing workflow using Infopath and SPS only?

    Thank you so much :)

Userroles work only in Domain(Active Directory).
Other way to implement is using the sharepoint username(Hinders performance, because there will two calls to sharepoint).

One other way you can do workflow is, maintain a state and base your workflow based on the state. So you will not use logged in username at all. But anyone can access this form and submit it.

I found out that this howto below :
We have a HowTo written to retrieve user name from sharepoint
will fail if the form contains validation errors (blank required item)
so how do we trick this out? I have a form (equipped with required validation) and I want to submit it first to SPS to get SPS username (as the howto does), but it fails

    Hi,
Through code you can submit the form to share point with blank required fields. Apply code on save button

    Hope this helps you!
