Dropdown list randomly goes out of order

I developed an infopath form (sp1) for a client last summer and all has been working good until recently. At random times, the dropdown box on the form is completely out of order. There are thousands of values in it, so it is very hard to find what you want if there is no logical order to it.

This dropdown box is populated by pulling data in from a SQL database. I have tried adding an 'order by' clause to the sql statement on the dropdown, but that did not seem to have any affect.

The client has said that this has happened a few times before, but it always seemed to fix itself somehow. So far, the dropdown box has been out of order going on 5 hours today.

If you have any idea why this would be happening or how I might go about fixing this issue, please let me know ASAP! The client can not complete some of their day-to-day tasks because of this.

    Thanks,
    Cory

    Hi Cory,
I don't expect InfoPath to do any kind of randomness to dropdown values.
One thing that you can try and look is, how does your values from database look in the XML? To look at the data, just place the data from DB in the UI as repeating nodes and check out the order of the data in the UI. Now compare these values and the values in the dropdown.

I think we figured out the problem...
the table that all this data is pulled from does not have a primary key specified. The item number field *has* to be unique, so I suggested that they make that their primary key.
