    AD webservice doesn't work

I installed IIS first and then ADService. It is saying it is successfuly installed.

when I give the URL in the browser it gives the message
    <%@ WebService Language="c#" Codebehind="AdUserInfo.asmx.cs" Class="ADService.AdUserInfo" %>

and if I am trying to test with Infopath, after selecting the webservice and trying to give the URL, it gives the error saying
The file is not a valid XML file.

The file is not a valid XML document.

    Illegal qualified name character.

    Line 1, Position 2

I checked web config file, it looks ok as suggested in the documentation. Kindly advice and do the needful

    Hi Devi,
Thanks for posting. It looks like a simple installation issue. Please give us some more information: what version of IIS was installed? Which version of Windows server are you running?

It sounds like ASP.NET Web Service Extension is not enabled in IIS.
    1) Start IIS Manager
    2) Click Web Service Extensions.
    3) Click ASP.NET v1.1.4322
    4) Click Allow
    5) Run IISRESET (This step may not be necessary, but it won't hurt)

Then try the accessing the web service again.

    Hi Jim

Thanks for your response. From your reply it looks like I need windows 2000 or windows 2003 server. I was trying to install on windows XP SP2 with IIS 5.1 and test it before going ahead and deploying it on the server. Let me do as suggested by you and give you feedback

    Thanks
    Devi

    Re: AD webservice doesn't work

If running Windows XP, installing the .NET Framework after installing IIS should be enough to make ASP.NET work.

    Hi,

It's because your system don't use the correct version of ASP.NET!

    For correct:

    open a command (Start->run->enter "cmd")

go on $SYSTEMROOT (by default c:\windows) /Microsoft.NET/Framwork/v.1.**** (which version you want to use)

When you are in the good deirectory simply type:

    aspnet_regiis.exe -i

    After your webservice will work!

    Re: AD webservice doesn't work

    Hi Patrick

Thanks for checking with me, I tested it today and the server error is resolved. I installed ADService on one of our test servers but I am publishing the infopath to the sharepoint portal which is on a different box. My requirement is , I want the details of the authenticated user who fills out the form on that box but I am getting only the login user details. Kindly advice

    Thanks
    Devi

    Hi Patrick

In addition to my previous post, I wanted to add this.
Teacher logs in ,kids go and access the sharepoint portal (typing url in the browser) from a teacher workstation and I want the login details of the kids to be populated from the AD in the form instead of teachers.
    Kindly advice

    Thanks

    Hi Devi,
There are two methods in the Web service. MyUserInfo is a method that can be used to get info for the current logged in user. GetUserInfo can be used to do so for a separate user. You will have to call GetUserInfo with the username of the user for which you desire the information. See the forum post below for more details on how to do this:
