    Workflow

Hello. Does anyone know of a tutorial or book that helps with developing basic workflow in Infopath using webparts. I'd like to do some real basic workflow in Infopath without having to use Biztalk Server. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,

The book from Patrick has a great Chapter on this (Chapter 11):

If you didn't buy it yet, you should...

    Thanks Franck!

Hi JaminJ and welcome to our forum,

Did you see the MSDN lab on BizTalk intergation. If not, I highly recommend it. It is very complicated and will give you a headache if you are new to setting up BizTalk, but it is a prerequisite for Chapter 11.

Hi Patrick. Does your book explain how to do workflow without having to use Biztalk Server? Here's an example of the type of workflow I would like to setup:

    1. Employee fills out an expense sheet. When they hit submit it sends it to their immediate supervisor.
    2. Supervisor reviews it. When they click approve it forwards to the Accounts Payable person.

Would I have to have Biztalk to accomplish this? Thanks for your help.

    Hi Jeremy,

Chapter 10 is on forms-based workflow and I think it's more relevant for more people than BizTalk. You definitely should think hard about BizTalk since it requires a lot more (read: orchestration, server config/admin, etc.).

Search the forum (click search in upper right corner) for "workflow" and see what you find. I have posted on this before.

Patrick, if I buy a copy and mail it to you, will you sign it?

I have been using this K2 Software for InfoPath Human to Human automation. It is great. Hooks into BizTalk and SharePoint. Little expensive, but it is worth while.

I have to say the K2 stuff completely rocks. Hands down. I has tight intergation with SharePoint and BizTalk and you really do some powerful stuff with it.
