    Web service problem

    Hi Guys,

I am new to infopath. I have a web service that returns a number as a string when called. I bound a text field control in infopath to this web service and then added a custom Submit button with Rules to the form that does nothing besides closing the form. When I run the form, I see the value of the text control being set but I am not able to get to it through code. Does anybody know why?

Also when I make any changes to the form, it prompts me to save the form. When I try to see the XML of the saved form, the field that is tied to the web service is not set eventhough I see a value in the field when I run the form. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hello Sumeet,
What kind of a data connection did you take to the Web service? Was it a Submit data connection or a Recieve data connection. You do not have a dom available when you create a Submit data connection. This will be available only for Recieve data connections. So you can pull data and make changes using it only if you use Recieve data connection.

I have one question though - to which field is the text box bound to?

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Shanthi,

The data connection is of Receive type. The text box is bound to the web-service result(the myfields\datafields\getNextNumResponse\getNextNumResult)..

Anyway I changed the databinding of the text box control from the web-service to whatever it was before and modified the web-site data object to not return any value by default and did all the steps pointed out in the 7th chapter of the book written by Patrick Halstead so now thats working in a strange way but its working.

    Thanks
