Submitting data to SQL database with Web Service

I have set up a web service (using Visual Studio 2003) to send data to an SQL database.

I have added a new Group to the Data Source in infopath, and added fields to this group with the same names and data types as my database.

I have added a submit button to the form, and set submit up to submit to the web service, and selected the Group under 'Field or Group' in the Parameter options screen.

But when I fill in the form and submit the data, it doesn't go into the SQL database.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi Mark,
This is a pretty open ended question! It could be any number of things. What's the error message? Have you looked at the evaluation copy of the Database Accelerator (Downloads->Free)? That has a good example of how to set up your InfoPath form to go to the Database Accelerator Web service which submits to a DB.

I don't actually get an error message - InfoPath tells me that the form has submitted successfully, but the data doesn't go into my database.

I've had a look at the database accelerator but it looks too complicated to set up. And why should I have to - Microsoft should make this stuff intuitive, not so complicated and obscure!

    Hi Mark,
Well, that's a good point. We developed the Database Accelerator because this was one area where there was a gap in Microsoft's intuitive design ... :) Anyway, it should be easy to setup the evaluation version. Just run the install and follow the setup instructions.

    Hi Anders,
Our initial pricing starts at $250 for developer edition. The standard version is ~$2500 and there are other version on top of that. In addition, the evaluation version is in fact "free" for a trial period (there's a time bomb). My suggestion would be to download the free trial and give it a spin. My guess is that you will see it has tremendous value and saves you cost long term. Please feel free to send me e-mail if you need more info. I'd be happy to talk to you about it.

    Hi Patrick

ok this is new to me. The only price i see inhttp://www.infopathdev.com/webstore/detail.aspx?itemid=12 is 9k witch i think is rather steep.

Ill probably end up coding one myself following Microsofts article on the subject just for the fun of it, but just out of curiosity whats the difference between standard and the full blown version?

    thx

    Hi Anders,
OK, I figured it out. We have a poorly designed website. We need to improve it. Anyway, try navigating tohttp://www.infopathdev.com/webstore/catalog.aspx and looking at the stuff. It's the Premium Downloads link on the Downloads/Premium page. The Dev version is $249. There are quite a few differences between the different versions. Here's a table:

Version Price XSNs Forms Server Expire Support
Evaluation $0 Unl. Unl. Unl. 12/1/05 Forum
    Developer $249 10 100 per 1 None Forum
    Standard $2,495 50 Unl. 1 None 4 events
    Advanced $5,995 200 Unl. 1 None 4 events
Enterprise $8,995 Unl. Unl. 1 None 10 events
Unlimited $22,995 Unl. Unl. Unl. None First year

Let me know if you have any questions

    Hi markperry,

did you already find a solution ?? I have the same problem. Trying to insert data to sql over a webservice. The query works but when submitting, no data arrives in sql, although InfoPath confirms a successful submit.

By the way, when trying the same with an access database doesn't work either.

Would be great if you can help me out.
