    Web Service Incompatability VS.Net

    Hi

I am quite new to InfoPath and all the related technologies. I have your excellent book.

I was very happy to create my first web service in vb.net which accesses a SQL database. It works with ASP.Net and Windows form. When I tried to use it with InfoPath I got an error talking about unsupported Web Services.

As I am just learning, this is not good news. I have seen a workaround on pg 226 of your book. It uses .Net Web References. I tried to follow it with my own Web Service but don't understand how to apply it. One of the problems is the OakleafWS is not working and I can't see what you are trying to do.

How can I use this solution or alternatively how do I create a simple Web Service that InfoPath will support.

    Many thanks

    Gary

Gary, I'm going to try to expose a Web service on our site and give you some sample code for it.

    Hi Patrick

Thanks, that would be most interesting. I have done more research on the topic but I keep seeing different methodologies. I am looking for best practice to access Retrieve and Update records from a SQL database via a Web Service, and obviously use InfoPath as the frontend.

    Thanks

    Gary

    Re: Web Service Incompatability VS.Net

    Hi again Patrick

I successfully completed Lab 9 of the InfoPath Training which guides through creating a basic Web Service and connecting to InfoPath.

    However...
The example users the Customer table only. When I tried to do it again using two tables I get an error in the Data Adapter Config Wizard after creating the SQL query which says something to the effect - Generated INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE can't be done because the query has multiple tables.

Secondly, to my limited knowledge instead of using the "Use SQL Statements" shown in the Lab would it be better to use the "Create new stored procedures" option.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
