Paragraph breaks have gone from mdb field!

    Hi all,

I have a form which looks up data from a knowledge base created in Access.

Example of a fix displayed in Access:

If you are sure it's not really happening (you may have Book1 open and then attempt to open a Book1 from another folder), then try re-registering Excel.

    1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button
    2. Choose Run 3. Type "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.Exe" /regserver (include the quotes) -- adapt to fit your path.

    Other things to check:

    1. In Excel, choose Tools>Options.
    2. On the General tab, make sure "Ignore Other Applications" is not checked

When I display this in InfoPath, it comes up like this:

If you are sure it's not really happening (you may have Book1 open and then attempt to open a Book1 from another folder), then try re-registering Excel. 1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button 2. Choose Run 3. Type "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.Exe" /regserver (include the quotes) -- adapt to fit your path. Other things to check: 1. In Excel, choose Tools>Options. 2. On the General tab, make sure "Ignore Other Applications" is not checked

Why did it not keep the paragraph breaks?

The field is a Rich text format in Infopath and is a memo in Access. Is this wrong?

    Thanks for your help

    Matt

Does anyone have any idea why a text field brought into a form from a data connection with a database loses all paragraph formatting?

    thanks

Have you set field in infopath to allow paragraph breaks?

By default they are not allowed

To check, double click the control, click display, tick allow paragraph breaks

I know this works with SQL server and varchar fields, I have never used mdb or rich text format

rich text format does not work with SQL server, you need a web service to sort formatting from text, or something like that

paragraph breaks work in varchar fields (SQL) and simple text fields (infopath)

    i assume mdb is similar

Thank you - I appeciate your answer!

Yeah, it's SQL format really. I will look up what a Varchar field is - I take it this is in my database and then I view it as a normal text field in Infopath?

    Thanks again

Re: Paragraph breaks have gone from mdb field!

So, I've thought of an idea.

If the database has a record for each "resolution step" (paragraph) then when the form gets to what resolution code to use, it filters based on that but lists all matching records from the database sorted by the resolutionStep number!

What type of section, etc do I need to display more than one possible result other than list box which doesn't have any facility of formatting?

I want to have my two fields - ResStep and ResInstruction in a table which repeats for as many times as there are entries from the database that match the relationship.

    What should I do?

    Example

    Subject: Broadband
    Issue: Setting up a router
    Res_Code: 10 <looked up from database>

<using the Res Code, display every record that matches Res_Code 10

    two fields [StepNum] and [Instructions]

1 Plug the power supply into the router and turn on

2 take ethernet cable and connect laptop to the bla bla

    3 Bla Bla Bla

    Surely this is grouping?

    Thanks for your help

Re: Paragraph breaks have gone from mdb field!

Can someone please answer this question or is it just boring? :(

How do you display more than one record from a database if the filter finds more than one database record meets the criteria other than in a pull down list?

I want to display "Paragraph breaks" in a peice of text but if I can't do that then I thought I would create a record per paragraph instead.

Now it looks like I can't display more than one record either - no paragraphs and only one record - great!

Please can someone please HELP, I am going out of mind banging my head on the wall.

    Thanks

a "repeating section" will allow multiple records to be displayed

You can also add what ever formatting you want
