I knew it couldnt be over - issue updating databas

I thought i was on the right track with my form. however i noticed today (i guess i was too busy with formatting before) that when i saved my new form from the template, it was not updating the database with the changed information.

    My setup,

I have a main data connection to an access database
I want to use infopath as a medium to make edits to the database.
A query exists within the infopath form to query data that is already in the database,
after the user edits the query, I would like to update the database with the changes.

So far all of this works fine except for the last peice.

What i thought... was that if the user saves a version of his form from the template then the changes to the database would be done automatically, what i didnt do was fully test this at first. I was saving a form and when i reopened it, it holds the query and the data that i placed into the form but it does not change the information in the database, I noticed this FINALLY when i made some changes to a form and created a new form from the template, when i reran the query it turned up the same information as the original query (no changes in the DB).

Where i am stumped... I have attempted to figure out a way to update the information with the database. however I cannot make a dataconnection to a Database, only to a webservice or a sharepoint site.

Can you all point me in the right direction? AGAIN :)

Thanks in advance, i hope everyone is enjoying their friday thus far.

You have to "Submit" to the database for the changes to be written there. There are two options that I know of. First, you can use the Submit button that is on the toolbar, next to the "Fill Out A Form" and "Open" buttons. Or, you can create a Submit button in the form itself.

Open the task pane, and go to Controls. Add a Button to the form. Open the Button Properties window and you have several choices. You can make the button a Submit button with the drop-down choices. Or, you can make the button a Rules and Custom Code button, and add submission to the database as a rule.

If you want other things to happen when the form is submitted (such as send someone an email), then put it in the rules.

Bottom line: "Submit" is what you are missing.

Thanks again DRGKreddy you have been awsome.

Yes the links were useful, I was able to see a screenshot in one of them that i am unable to see on my form, i am not sure why.

I am unable to "submit to Database" I am not given the option.

I had created the form by chosing the "new form from database connection" upon initial creation. So i can submit to email, sharepoint, or webservice.

I am going to try a test run of a new form to see if that will work, thanks for the links they confirmed that there is something i am not getting to see on my current form.

Have a look at your main connection, on the screen after you have choosen your tables have a look at the summary box, check submit status

If you have not arranged your tables the way infopath finds acceptable it will disable the submit function
