    SQL Login Box keeps repeating

I am really new to InfoPath and SQL. I have developed a form that works pretty well except for one issues.

On my machine everything works great with my Infopath form that is connected to a SQL database. When I share the form, or if if another user accesses the form, they are prompted with a SQL Server login diolog box. You can choose the database from the dropdown list, which isn't a problem and it will let you write to the database. The problem is the login box prompts after each form submission and the speed if very slow. I do not get the dialog box from my machine.

I would really appreciate any feedback,

    Thanks,
    Dustin

When you set up the data connection did you select windows authentication?

If so make sure all users have the same login permission on the SQL server

    Thanks for your response Stavi,

Windows authentication is selected in the SQL server dialog box.
Even if I log into the second computer with my windows authentication, I still get the dialog box so I would think it would be something different.

    What do you think?

    I've had another thought

What sort of sql server have you got? msde?

Can you access the sql server from another pc using ms access in office?

If you cant then sql server was probably installed without network capabilities.

    Stavi,

I was able to access the SQL database with MS Access through another pc if I logged into Windows. If another user was signed on, the SQL is doesn't recognize them as a authorized user, which makes sense.

    We are using Windows XP.

I found the following in the forum about signing a certificate, but I am not sure how to run the command they suggested. I don't go to a DOS prompt I assume. Any ideas how to do this?

In order to sign a form, you need the private key for the certificate. This private key is not installed when you install a certificate on a machine, for the very simple reason that it would allow anyone to sign with your certificate. That would be bad. :-)

When you create a certificate with the self-cert utility, it automatically installs the private key for the certificate so it can be used to sign code. However, you cannot then move that private key to anotther machine. You can use these steps from the Infopath 2003 SDK to use the "makecert" utility to create a certificate with a private key stored in a .pvk file that can then be ported.

To create a certificate with the Makecert.exe utility, a trusted root certificate authority must be created first. To create the certificate authority:

Open the Command Prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER:
    makecert -n "CN=TrustedRootCA" -r -cy authority -a sha1 -sky signature -m 1 -sv certRoot.pvk certRoot.cer -ss ROOT

The Create Private Key Password dialog box is displayed. Click None.
A Security Warning message is displayed stating "You are about to install a certificate from a certification authority (CA) claiming to represent: TrustedRootCA". Click Yes to install the certificate to the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store.
To create a certificate that can be used for signing, type the following, and then press ENTER:
    makecert -n "CN=TestCert" -cy end -a sha1 -sky signature -m 1 -iv Certroot.pvk -ic certroot.cer -ss MY -sv MyKey.pvk MyCertificate.cer

The Create Private Key Password dialog box is displayed. Because this is just a debug and test certificate, it is recommended that you use a blank password to make the signing process simpler. To create a blank password, click None.
Once you have the PVK file, you can use the PVK Digital Certificates File Importer http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=F9992C94-B129-46BC-B240-414BDFF679A7) to install the certificate with private key on the new machine.

    Stavi,

After days of playing with the fully trusted form with digital signature I was able to implement it. But it still did not alleviate my issue of the SQL login box appearing.

Do you think there is a default database that needs to be setup in the form? I know the data connections are setup with the database. I don't know what else to try?

Any other ideas? Anyone that you know I can call?

    Best,
    Dustin

If I have read that right it means when infopath uses windows authentication to login to the SQL Server it will reject their credentials. You need to check SQL security and add users to the same role as yours

What SQL server do you use? what do you use to manage it?

MSDE does not come with a managment tool, SQL 2000 and others comes with Enterprize Manager

Tell me which you use and I will try and tell you how to check security

    Stavi,

I use Microsoft SQL Server Management Express 2005. I did create other users with read and write credentials. If I used the SQL login for the data connection, the problem should go away correct? I have done this, but still have the repeating dialog box.

Re: SQL Login Box keeps repeating

Did you set read and write credentials for each user?

I added my users to the same "role" as me so everyone will get same access

Also if I remember there are 2 places to log the user, one for the SQL server itself and one on the database itself

I've not used any of the 2005 versions so I dont know if it's the same or not

Also check that the "role" has access to every table in the database and update it if you add any new tables
