Infopath File Submit Error to SPS Form Library

I am getting error message 'File in use by another application or user'after resubmitting a form into the same Form Library. The process to the form is the user fills out the Infopath form thru SPS (Sharepoint Portal Server 2003) website. A second user opens the form and adds information to the form thru Infopath as well and submits the form back into the same library with the same name thru a submit button.

Thanking you in advance for your help.

Re: Infopath File Submit Error to SPS Form Library

    Thanks for the response Kalyan.

    Reading the thread link you provided helped me in that I was using characters in my data connection wizard file name. Some of the formulas I tried are;
    concat(lastName, ", ", firstName, "_NEIS")
    concat(lastName,"_",firstName,"_NEIS")
    concat(lastName, firstName, " NEIS")

All of which have no errors when I verify the formula.
I also have Allow Overwrites checked & Close the form chosen within Submit options.

Regardless of which formula I use, I get this error when resubmitting a form.
    Any other ideas?

    Thanks again.

SharePoint uses locks on forms. There are several threads on this issue. Please search the forum (upper left hand corner). You may want to verify that it is a locking issue first. The SharePoint lock is 10 minutes long. Make sure the first user closes the form. Then see if the second user can open. If not, wait 10 minutes and have them try again. If this works, then it's a locking issue which will help us offer you some advice.

    Patrick,

Thanks for the guidance. I'll test this & research locks on forms. If I still have issues, I'll get back to you. Again, thanks.

Re: Infopath File Submit Error to SPS Form Library

Others opened the form & re-submitted with the same error. Even after waiting 10 minutes. I can tell you that if I change the file name formula in the submit data connection, I can then submit this form (once) & end up with two forms. The old & the new. If I or anyone else opens this (new) form, regardless of elapsed time (10 mins. or not) & try to submit, I(they) get the 'File in use by another application or user' error. Frustrating, huh?
I didn't see alot of info when searching on form locking. Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks

    Hi Joe,
I'm sorry, but I have no idea what is happening. We would have to debug your SharePoint deployment. If you'd like we can look at this via a virtual web meeting or something. Please send e-mail. My guess is that there is something wrong with the way you are submitting. If you remove submit and have people save and close do you have the same problem?

Re: Infopath File Submit Error to SPS Form Library

    Hello Again All,

This error reared it's ugly head again. People seem to take notice about once every other month. But here's another way to describ this issue

I am getting error message "File in use by another application or user", when trying to submit chasnges to a form into the same Form Library.
If I use save, I get "Infopath cannot save the form. The specified location is either not valid or not available. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the location is correct."
If I use file | exit or close, I can get out of the form & when returning to the form, the changes are there.

The process to the form is the user fills out the Infopath form thru SPS (Sharepoint Portal Server 2003) website. A second user opens the form and adds information to the form thru Infopath as well and submits the form back into the same library with the same name thru a submit button.

I'm told that this issue is a sharepoint lock problem from the Infopath communities, but even after waiting 10 min. (by default) I cannot submit changes.

The only way I can submit changes, is to open the form, delete the form from the sharepoint form library & then submit the form back to the form library while in Infopath.

In my form template, the submit button formula verifies with no errors & I also have Allow Overwrites checked & Close the form chosen within the Submit options.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My scalp will thank you also for a little less thinning & graying.
