Using a SharePoint list as a database lookup

Hi all I am new, both to Infopath and this forum. I am hoping someone can help me with 2 things.

First I have created a list in SharePoint that contains 2 fields (columns) A and B the list has more than 200 records in it, my first problem is when I create a dropdown list on my Infopath form the dropdown list is only showing the first 100 items in the list. When I go to the SharePoint list I can see the first 100 items and there is a link at the bottom that allows me to view the next 200 and so forth. Why can't the dropdown list in the Infopath form show more than the first 100?

My second issue is that I would like to be able to choose an item from column A in the dropdown list and let the corresponding item in the same record from column B be displayed in a text box. Can this be done through the rules and filters without writing code?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Socaprice, and welcome to the forum :-)

Since the default maximum allowed rows in the default view in SPS is 100, and since the default view is the one retrieved by InfoPath 100 is what you will get. Its a known issue with InfoPath and AFAIK the only workaround is to set the default view to show all rows (disable paging).

Maybe if you used the lists.asmx web service to retrieve a specific view, you could get around this. Worth trying!

The second issue is quite straight forward:

1.add a rule on your dropdown: for example A is not blank
2.add an action to the rule: Set a Fields Value: B = .

Thanks I will try both and let you know if it works.

    Keeping fingers crossed,

It works, the second question though is a little more complex I got it to work using the rules and filters but because it is on a Repeating Table the textbox seems to keep the value of the previous item when I insert a new item. I got to find some way of clearing the value when I move to the new item.

If anyone knows how to fix this, again I will be very appreciative.

Check out this awesome Infopath Filtered Lookup Web Service that gives you this functionality and more!
