I'm trying to put an InfoPath together that displays a specific citation of the Code of Federal Regulations based on a selection from a drop down list. Is there a way to easily hide everything until you select the specific citation? It would be a lot of rules, would there be a way to link an excel file or something? I'm using the CFR website to get the citation and text from this link. https://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=47741fb3b4a1116abb820fb1f7b5645b&mc=true&node=pt49.9.1540&rgn=div5 I've attached my current InfoPath form if it helps.

So - it looks like this data is available in XML format here: https://www.govinfo.gov/bulkdata/ECFR, but the XML file is HUGE. I'm not sure what performance would be like with this in the form....

Would it work better if I used only a portion of the regulations? I don't need every one of them. Thanks.

Probably. You could download the XML file and manually clean it up. Basically, I think using an XML file as a secondary data source could help you with what you want to do - you could display text based on what the user has selected.

I had time to set up a simple sample for you this morning. Save the linked file locally, then right click and select design, preview and select a regulation from the dropdown. In design mode, go to the Data tab in the ribbon and you'll see a button for resource files - you can export the XML from there to see what it looks like....
