using employee ID to populate additional info about the person in repeating table

I was wondering if you can guide me on how to do something like that. I wand to be able to just type in the employee Id and for it to autopopulate the additional information like (name, title, department, phone, email etc) in a repeating table. Is it something that I can do in InfoPath 2013 using sharepoint online?

When you say employee id, what do you mean? The account id, like JDoe, or is it an actual ID number of some kind? I think in Office 365 you can still get some information from the User Information list for the site, so perhaps start with that. Create a connection to the user information list, drag the fields onto the form, and see if the data you need is in there. I'm pretty sure the user profile service is completely blocked now on SharePoint Online (it was last time I checked) so that won't likely be an option.

the actual ID of some kind. I was looking into the 365, but doesn't seem to make it work, so was thinking of creating new sharepoint list and query data from there. t is cause i have a repeating table with those info to be filled out and feel it is quite a lot of filing in. so this method, if i can figure a way for it to work, would be better.

Yeah, if you have a list that has the ID and the other values you want, you could then populate the data in your form when the user picks a person - here's a made up sample that uses an XML file instead of a list, because that way you can preview it and try it. Save the file locally, right click and select design, then preview. Employee IDs in the sample are 1, 2, 3, and 4.

thank you Hilary for the prompt reply. I will go ahead and see if I can create the xml like yours. did you used a repeating table to store your information in the secondary table. Also, how would using an xml affect when the form is used online?

I'm not saying you should use XML - you can just use a list and a data connection to the list. I used an XML so you'd be able to preview the form and see how it works. If I had used a list data connection, the form wouldn't have been able to connect to the SharePoint site when you tried it, because you do not have access to my SharePoint sites.
