    Managed Code Deployment

First off this this formum has been a GREAT resource for me in the past two weeks!!!

I was wanting to get a little more information about how a .NET managed code solution would be deployed in SharePoint before I offer it up as a solution for something I am working on right now.

From what I understand if I create a InfoPath project in VS studio, to ultimately deploy it, I need to create a .msi and have the form installed on each machine that will use it. For this solution I am working on I am using InfoPath, SharePoint and K2 workflow management software. I wanted to publish the form to a SharePoint site and then the user experience would be to simply go to the SharePoint list and start working with the form.

So my question is, how is a .NET managed InfoPath form typically be deployed and how can I use SharePoint as the entry point for users? Any best practices would be great.

    Thanks...

Hi VT_Asparagus and welcome to our forum!

If you deploy a .NET managed code solution to SharePoint with security level set to Domain Trust(the default), you don't need to create an MSI. InfoPath on the client will download the latest template from the server when it opens the form.

K2 is a good choice. Many people have used that with InfoPath although we have not yet. I hear it is a little tricky to get hooked up but much simpler than BizTalk.

    Good luck

I would like to restart this thread again. How does this article that is posted on this web site come into the picture? http://www.infopathdev.com/howto/tips/default.aspx?i=b0e8df7595154da49d237dc8389c6da4)

So if I were to deploy a simple .NET managed code form in SharePoint with a call to System.Environment.Username when will I get this error. Want to be sure I understand the issue.

    Re: Managed Code Deployment

    Joining in on vt's question:

If for example, my computer at home has infopath sp1, visual studio 2003 with the infopath toolkit and I created my infopath form using managed code for the environment.username call for user identification. Then I copy the infopath xsn file to a different computer then using that xsn file, try to publish it on sharepoint. Will it work if:

a.)the machine doesn't have visual studio with the infopath toolkit?

    OR

b.) the machine only has the .Net framework?

I've been trying it out but I get errors when I try to fill out or preview the form. Do I need to do anything else?

    Thanks.
*I'm really new to Infopath, I have been trying to learn it for the past week so be kind :)

    OK.
Had to find out the hard way. You have to have the .Net framework.
