so here is a new twist even though I have an xml pointing to a dropdown it is pulling in a category that equals N/A i dont want that...do i have to make a rule not to include them?

If there are specific values you don't want to display that your original filter doesn't exclude, you have to add to the filter.

so i am concerned that on this form they may be selecting different group and sub group i do not want the selection that they have chosen to go away from the first entry and subsequent entries how do i put a rule that will allow them to keep entering in the repeating table and allow them to select different subgroups?

I dont understand how to tell it to not include something that is not in the XML. The file doesnt have any #N/A in it...however that is showing up in every dropdown regardless of the xml attached.

Without seeing the form with the XML resource file I can't begin to guess. Have you opened the XML in a text editor and searched for "#N/A"? I think in another post, you talked about creating this XML from Excel - #N/A is a common error in Excel, like when a VLOOKUP doesn't return a value. In the last version of the form I looked at, your cascading dropdowns weren't in a repeating group. Has that changed?

Yes and there is no N/A in it at all. As far as the repeating group, the above cascade dropdown filter down the items in the repeating table below. So I need a way to have the selection of the first group and if it is not empty or if they change category to not clear or hide something that is already filled out, but continue to filter down the line to the individual line items.

Send me your file (with the XML as a resource) using this link: https://www.hightail.com/u/QdabraSoftware466460 and I'll take a look.
