I have three cascading dropdowns. First one Selects the Business Group, second selects the sub group and the third display the equipment detail. All of them are working as expected, however, the last one is cache or something the previous selection from the Sub group even though that is not one of the selections in the dropdown. I am still getting all of the details just at the very top it is showing the previous selection. Any idea why that would be happening??? Dorinda

Generally, with cascading dropdowns, I add a rule to each field involved to clear the child field on change. So, Business Group needs a rule to set Sub Group to blank when it changes. And Sub Group needs a rule to set Equipment Detail to blank. This should be the first rule for each field. That way the now-invalid choice doesn't "stick".

I have that already and it is not doing it....really wierd

Feel free to attach your form if you'd like me to take a look. If this is the form that is too large to attach, you can remove the XML file under Data > Resource Files > select the XML and click Remove.

So i removed them does that mean i have to reattach them. Dorinda

Yes, in the form you are publishing / using - the XML files provide the data. However, I know you weren't able to attach the form with the XML files in the template due to size constraints. What view will I find these dropdowns in?

The only thing I can guess is that it is because the first item is a multi-select. I've sometimes had issues with rules on those - they don't seem to fire as consistently as rules on other types of controls.

OK I changed out the top dropdown for option buttons and the first dropdown works but the second one isnt can you take a look please. the details are not filling in on the Additional Details dropdown. Dorinda

So I discovered something very weird and I dont know how to explain it. I had gone back to my rules to clear the cascading history and saw that in the sub group i had this . Just a period, when I removed it nothing would populate the dropdown. If I put it back i got the previous selection but all of the rest of the selections. I have no idea how i put a period in that ......but why would that work and not the filter i have in place?? Here is the form with the period in the BG field filter

The other thing that is weird is that I cannot use the cascading dropdowns if the resource file is not attached to the form. If i have it pointing to the sharepoint library it will not pull the data. Is that normal?

InfoPath is going to use XPath notation - the period is normal. https://www.w3schools.com/xml/xpath_syntax.asp for more. I don't understand this: "If I have it pointing to the sharepoint library it will not pull the data" - I don't know what that means. If your data connection is setup to use a resource file from the form, the resource file must be present in the form for there to be data. As I mentioned before, I only had you remove those so you could attach the form template to your post, because the extremely large XML files are making your form very large too.
