    I am trying to get a formula to pull the first letter from one field and concat it with the last four of a SSN. 

     Last Name would be Smith, SSN 000001234.

     Output would be S1234.

    You could use concat & substring for this. concat(substring(LastName, 1, 1), substring(SSN, 6, 4)) should do the trick.
