I tried - and failed - to get this code to work to delete a file from Sharepoint:

This, however, works like a champ (for me, at least):

oXmlHttp = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP");
oXmlHttp.open("DELETE", myURL, false);
oXmlHttp.send();

Where "myURL" is the file URL you are trying to delete.

Your approach of using HTTP is even simpler than the UpdateListItems method. I wonder if the latter doesn't work because of a version issue. Which version of SharePoint are you running?

I was trying UpdateListItems in SharePoint 2003.

For some reason, I never got an error message - it just failed to delete the file.
