InfoPath Dev

I'm trying to populate some fields in InfoPath using the People Picker (see below). I've been using this Blog Post: http://eimagine.com/using-infopath-and-the-web-service-getuserprofilebyname/ which is fine up to a point, but it's showing my account details (i.e that I work in IT) and what I want to happen is that a person picks 'Fred Smith' and the fields below are populated. Any suggestions?

My guess is that you aren't getting the query account name field set in your data connection. You can't set rules on people picker fields, so you'll need to add a helper field for this. Name it SelectedAccount or something, and set the default to the account id in the people picker fields. Put a rule on this new helper field to set the account name query field in your user profile data connection, then execute the query. Feel free to attach your form in a reply (under Options) if you need a hand. :)

 Thanks Hilary. Really appreciate it. I've attached the form a suggested. I've set up a rule on the SelectAccount field and what it's returning is the AccountName and I need it to return the relative field details, Department, job title etc...I think I'm nearly there....! Thanks agan.

So - I'm confused about why you have the rules on form load - wouldn't you want to wait to run them till after someone is selected from the People Picker?

That's my mistake, of course you wouldn't put them on Form Load! Doh! What's the best Data option to put the rule on?

Put those rules on your SelectedAccount field. :)

I've set a rule on the SelectAccount field as suggested, and on the Rule Details I've set: Action to: 'Set a field's value', Field: to AccountId from the People Picker and Value to: Value[. = "Department"] but it's not returning anything now. Do I need to get rid of the other rules I set up? I've attached the form again, thanks again in advance.

I'll try to take a look later today - but it may be tomorrow. :)

See attached for some ideas. Save the attached file locally, right click & you can take a look at rules & preview. You had some defaults set that I didn't understand, so I removed those. I removed the form load rules too! I added a section on the form with the query & data fields for the user profile connection so you could try some stuff and see what's returned - just enter account IDs and click the button to see the data. Rules are on the SelectedAccount field. :)

Great! Thanks Hilary. When I select a person it gives me a mass of info, which is superb, just need to filter the info into the relevant fields. The rules you set up are called Get User Info?

Right, and you can copy the rule that sets the department field to set your other fields. You can see the filter syntax there - you select the value and then add a filter to make the name equal to whatever you are seeing in the Name column in that secondary data source on the form - that makes it easier to get the rules right. :)

To populate the relent fields would it be a matter of adding the filter, so in the manner I've attached (although I've tried to filter the Job Title into the Department filed)

I wouldn't use defaults for this. Just add rules to the same rule I added on your selected account field
