An Out of Box InfoPath 2010 Approval Form

     Hello again,

I am working on a new form, one that requires manager approval and also needs to be submitted to a list as read-only to store for audits.

I've been going back and forth about how to do this as I don't have access to Designer. I've tried submitting the form to the list and creating a workflow to send the approval task but it isn't working to send the email and I need the approver to be dynamic based on what is entered in the form.

I've tried then to add an approval section to my form that is hidden when the form is filled out and submitted and then the submitted button is disabled so the approver then gets the Approve and Deny button options along with some text. For some reason, if I use the form to send to a manager to approve, the text in the section that hides initially shows up but the buttons do not show up. If I submit the form to a list first and open it up, it works as intended with the buttons and the text visible and the submit button is disabled.  I've gone over my rules so many times but can't find a reason why the buttons don't show up and this option seems to be the easiest with a dynamic approver. I've tried the suggestion on how to make the approver dynamic in a workflow but I couldn't get that to work either.

The other thing I've thought about is to create a separate view for the approval but I haven't tried that yet and would like to get the second option working if possible.

So I have three questions I guess.

    1. Is there a best practice for a form like this when trying to complete the process out of the box?

    2. Has anyone had any experience with trying to use email for a section that is initially hidden but once the form is submitted and changes a hidden field to Submitted will then show the hidden section with buttons?

    3. Would using a separate view be easier in the end?

We are using SharePoint 2010, InfoPath 2010 and Windows 7.

    Thank you for any help.

    Mike
