    InfoPath 2010 check for duplicates

Attached form. Step 1 view has a command button to check for duplicate records that match the following fields: CourseCd, Req_Type, Start Date, Primary Location and Berthing. After clicking the Check for Duplicates command button, the section is only supposed to show records matching these fields. After changing these fields, query does not limit to these values. Any assistance will be appreciated. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you in advance

    Clarity

    Form Loads

    User enters values in fields

I don't see any rules on the Check for Duplicates button that set query fields in the Convening_Reqs data source prior to running the query. You need to set query fields to limit the results.

Thanks, got it working for most of the fields, has a problem with filtering on the Start Data and Class Size fields though

If you are looking for exact matches, the format of the field may be the issue. Put the returned data on the form in a manner that shows the actual value (use text boxes, set the format to show the XML value). Another great way to figure this stuff out is to drag the entire data source, query & data fields onto the form and add a button that just runs the query. Then you can preview the form and enter test values in the query fields, click the button and see what results you get....

Ok, got it working for the Start Date Field, when I display the values in XML, then I see the difference, I am using the substring function to look at the places I need it to look at. I am able to disable the submit check box, but I am also trying to get it to display a message, stuck on the logic for that part, but should be able to figure out soon

Great, holler if you get stuck. I found the display vs. actual data value confusing for quite a while, so I always like to look at what the data really is - makes it easier. :)

Re: InfoPath 2010 check for duplicates

I have the functions working now. I was trying to create a new section to display the message. After I went home it occurred there is no reason to display the message in another section. So I put the message at the top of the Duplicates section. btw, I accepted a new SharePoint Content Manager position. I already know they do not use InfoPath, so this may be my last InfoPath post on this site. Someone else is taking over the development of this application. I am busy writing my notes how the program works for the next person. So you may see someone else posting the application here for help Thanks for the help, very much appreciated
