Thank you for this form Hilary and sorry for the delayed response. I have been out of the office for a while but I do not have the best news to report. Okay so I think this was a good step in the right direction for this form the departments are now being queried based on the list of values that are pull from my secondary source SP list, but more problems seem to keep appearing as time goes on...

I am getting the error "The form could not be displayed because default values or rules are taking too long to evaluate. To correct this, simplify the expressions or reduce the size of the data sets that they depend on." when I open the form after publishing. The number of items in the list are around 150 in total.

I also get an error when selecting the largest department query that the form needs (selecting 80 entries at a time). The error that I get when doing this in preview mode is:

"An error occurred in the form's rules or code. The number of rule actions or the number of calls to the OnAfterChange event for a single update in the data exceeded the maximum limit.

The rules or code may be causing an infinite loop. To prevent this, ensure that the rule action or event handler does not update the data which causes the same rule action or event handler to execute."

    Questions

Is this too much for SharePoint to handle with a query?

Could it be a possible logic error with the setting of values using the ID?

Also each department can have any amount of different items being queried at a time is this a problem?

Any help that can be passed along would be greatly appreciated! :)

I'm surprised by the infinite loop error - because if we are just setting ID by default then it sets its own items, I don't think we'd get a looping error. As to the initial error - that isn't one I've run into before. You may be able to switch to a REST connection to just retrieve the selected department, and add a second REST connection to return the "default" items.

I am getting an error now that will not allow me to use the form without infopath filler.

I just realized you are publishing to Office 365 - so that takes REST out of the equation. I'll try to publish to my O365 site while running Fiddler to see if I can see why you are getting an error, but you may just not be able to do this leveraging a list. You may just have to use default data after all.

    Re: Field reset after submit

Fiddler came back with the not so helpful "Server was unable to process request. ---> Object reference not set to an instance of an object.". Do you have an earlier copy of the form that still will publish as browser enabled? You may want to compare that with your latest. I continue to think that you may have to just use default data in the form instead of a list, and even that may be problematic with 150 items.

    Re: Field reset after submit

I have a solution that works with many fields we had just hoped that we could use a list to make it more easily updatable for our non tech professionals but this will be a solution until we find another I suppose. Hilary I can not thank you enough for all the help that you have given me! Thank you so much for making your knowledge available!
