Repeating Table - Dynamically filter/unfilter multiple row(s) based on user input & Data Fields

Newbie here. I have a form with a repeating table and I want to hide/display subsequent rows based on user input. Essentially the user is answering "parent" questions that may have 0-3 follow up "child" questions to be displayed based on their answer to the original question.Below is an example. I would want to hide/filter anything with type = child and display them when the user input (Response) matches the child trigger. There is a data point that indicates whether a "yes" response or a "no" response should open up the child questions to be answered. In this case if the user selected "yes" to 02.0039 then 02.0040 and 02.0041 would be displayed etc.

Is this doable? I was playing around with Preceding-Sibling but that doesn't seem to get me there, at least as far as I can tell. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be extremely appreciated!!

Definitely possible - any chance you could attach your form in a reply under the options tab? I can give you a hand. :)

Unfortunately I won't be able to do that. The form is on my work laptop and it will flag if I try to send it to an outside e-mail. I work for a bank so they tend to have things buttoned up pretty tight. Sorry about that. :(

Maybe you could just give me an idea of what I might try?

     Thanks a bunch!!!

Okay, just to make sure I was clear, I didn't mean for you to email it, but to attach it to your forum post. At any rate, you need to use preceding sibling in your condition to show / hide the rows. I'm attaching a simple sample form. Save it locally, right click and select design to open in design mode & you can preview from there.

Yeah I know but they restrict access to forums as well. lol

When I right click I don't see a "design" option. Just the usual selections. Am I missing something? I can't seem to get it to open in designer ...

Download the file locally first. Did you do that?

Usually, right clicking an XSN will have the "Design" option on a machine with InfoPath installed. You could also open InfoPath designer and navigate to the downloaded XSN to open it, from the "open" menu.

I got it. For some reason the extension was .xml after I sent it to work computer. Resent it and its working now. Thanks so much and have a great weekend!

     Hey Hillary,

Follow up question on this ...

This worked great and was able to tweak your example and make it work. My question is how would you reset the child responses to null when the parent question is re-answered to "no". So the user goes in and selects "yes" displaying the child questions and answers them. Then realizes "whoopsie" that should have been "no". When the user goes back and selects "no" how can I wipe out their responses on the now not displayed child questions?

It seems like a variation of this formula on a set field value rule should work but I haven't had any luck.

     Appreciate your time!

Well, InfoPath doesn't have any built in way to filter the target of a rule. But we can do this with some helper fields. I added a helper to the repeating group & a form logic XML file to this version - take a look and let me know if you have any questions on the rules.
