How to transfer information to another field in another form

My form has a drop down for the stage a business case is at (i.e initiated, completed, etc.), and i want a graph on the front page of my SharePoint site to display how many business cases we have at each stage. So each form submitted should relay this information to another app/page/form with a counter for each stage that can then be graphed. How should i go about this?

I'd guess you would promote the stage to the library the form submits to, then you could create .... something .... with a data connection to that library to aggregate the data / chart as desired? Power BI maybe, or even just Excel?

I have created a data connection between to form libraries. One library will have graphs + a field that aggregates the data (well call it field1), the other has the form in which the business case is chosen. However the only option i can find is when i submit my business case form, it just creates a new form in the graphs form library. Doesnt simply update field1. And even that doesnt work, i get an error stating a file with the same name already exists when i try to submit. There is no file with the same name, and i check marked the overwrite option anyways. How would i be able to make the business cases aggregate in a column in excel?

So - what I am saying is that you should submit all your forms to a single library, then in another form (or whatever, web part, Excel, etc) use a data connection to THAT library to return all the data & then aggregate it.
