I have a form that has a repeating section. In this section there is a field that is a lookup to a separate list of current clients. What i'm trying to accomplish is copying the client name to the new section when clicking Insert Item at the bottom of the form. Can't seem to get this to work using rules. Any ideas? 05-03-2017 03:12 PM In reply to Hilary Stoupa Joined on 06-20-2008 Posts 13,297 Re: Repeating Section - Copy Data from previous section Form2.xsn Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact So - the newly entered row gets set to the same value as the prior row? See attached sample - right click & save target to save locally, right click local file and select Design to open in design mode. Reply Contact Thank you Hilary but it's not quite what I had in mind. I'm not using a repeating table. I'm using a repeating section for a group of tables. In one table is a drop down menu that references a lookup to a table containing the clients. When I click on Insert Item on the Repeating section, I need part of that table to copy to the new section. 05-04-2017 07:56 AM In reply to Hilary Stoupa Joined on 06-20-2008 Posts 13,297 Re: Repeating Section - Copy Data from previous section Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact Attach a sample of your form under the options tab & I'll see if I can give you a hand. Reply Contact No - I won't be able to preview the form, because I won't have access to your data sources, but usually I can get a pretty good idea in design mode. :) Hilary Stoupa 05-04-2017 08:20 AM In reply to tovar619 Joined on 04-28-2017 Posts 7 Re: Repeating Section - Copy Data from previous section Template.xsn Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact So - when they insert a new section, you want the area in the previous Client section copied in? If so - that is just like my sample (even though my repeating group uses a table instead of a section...). I must be misunderstanding something? Reply Contact now I'm getting this error "preceding-sibling::SharePointListItem_RW/Client" does not point to a valid location path of a field or group. Did I format that wrong? 05-04-2017 09:12 AM In reply to Hilary Stoupa Joined on 06-20-2008 Posts 13,297 Re: Repeating Section - Copy Data from previous section Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact Yeah, you'll need the namespace prefixes. So on the repeating group, the rule to set Client would be: preceding-sibling::my:SharePointListItem_RW/my:Client Hilary Stoupa 05-04-2017 09:20 AM In reply to tovar619 Joined on 04-28-2017 Posts 7 Re: Repeating Section - Copy Data from previous section Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact You are absolutely amazing! I've been struggling with this for days! 05-04-2017 09:30 AM In reply to tovar619 Joined on 04-28-2017 Posts 7 Re: Repeating Section - Copy Data from previous section Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact One last question, how do you deal with spaces in Namespace? For example, I need to copy the Client Manager to the new section. I have this for the formula, preceding-sibling::my:SharePointListItem_RW/my:Client Manager:pc:Person:DisplayName 05-04-2017 09:36 AM In reply to Hilary Stoupa Joined on 06-20-2008 Posts 13,297 Re: Repeating Section - Copy Data from previous section Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact Well, I think DisplayName is going to also use the PC namespace prefix. What I usually do is right click the field in the task pane for fields (you have to select the "advanced view" option for list forms) and then select Copy XPath - that should get you the actual XPath to the field. I should warn you that people pickers are a little trickier - I think you have to set the account ID and the display name & I know in the past I've run into issues using rules to set people pickers in list forms....
