    Debugging in VS 2005

I have hit the wall hard. How do I configure either the solution or VS so that I can debug the form and have access to the File menu commands (i.e. Save, Open, etc.)?

I am writing code in the OnLoad event handler but can't ever start the form in the mode to open an existing xml file - it always opens a new form.

I am also writing code for the saving of the form and can't get these menu command enabled when I open the form in debugging mode from within VS. They are always disabled.

    Hey Laurie,

I know of no way to enable the save and other commands from the menu buttons while previewing the form from the designer. If you need to debug these particular instructions you could use thisXDocument.UI.Alert()s with the published form to help. Also, you can preview your form with a particular XML file by going to File -> Preview Form -> With data file.

I hope this helps, sorry to disappoint you about enableing the menu commands!

    Hi Laurie,
To debug InfoPath forms, I don't use the preview much. I usually publish a debug version of the form, open it, attach to the process using VS, and set breakpoints in the code that will get executed. Good luck!

Well at least I wasn't missing something simple. Previewing a form from Visual Studio doesn't run in debug mode.

when I publish the debug version of the form and then attach to the process within VS, the breakpoints don't work. Is there a trick to get the breakpoints to apply to the attached process?
