InfoPath Dev

I have created a form using VS2005 managed code (in C#). I am handling the OnSubmit event in code, creating a database connection and calling a stored procedure to insert and update rows in the MS SQL Server DB.
Right now the connection string is hardcoded in the code but i want to put it in the config file for runtime alterations. It is afully secured form that would be deployed in a network location and would need to be emailed to several users. My question is: Where is the config file located and where do i change it so that it gets picked up by the form? Do i have to send out the form to all users again after the config file has changed?

Are you referring to InfoPath.exe.config? If so, this doesn't sound like a good solution to me. Each user would need to have this file, with the db connection string.

As for your other question, the .config file should be located in the same Office11 folder as InfoPath.exe. If it doesn't exist, it must be created.

Okay--someone else will have to jump in to assist you then. I don't have any background on the app.config file.

You save the config file in a central location like a sharepoint or a webserver and load that config file when the form loads.
You can either use a InfoPath secondary dataconnection to load the config file or you can use C# XMLDocument to load the file from the central location.

thanks guys! I will try that and let you know, but basically you are saying that if I load the file at startup, then it will be read and any new config value picked up. If i dont explicitly load the file, then is it read only once when the form is created and then never read again?

Yes.

Just for the record:

app.config and infopath.exe.config is identical.

app.config is just the way VS.NET names it until the project is builded.
