I want to add an xml file as a secondary datasource...no problem there, but how do I include that xml file's corresponding schema as well?

You asking just to put the .xsd file into InfoPath? Tools >> Resources >> Add.

But, if you go to Tools \ Data Connections \ Add \ Receive Data \ XML (let's say Form1.xml)
When you extract your files, your should see your Form1.xsd (which is already embedded in the form).
You should be able to look at the schema through the data source drop-down.

Am I missing something here?

Maybe an example will help explain my question:

If I wanted to include a file called "states.xml" that list all the states and their postal abbreviations, I can easily add that file as a resource file and use it as a datasource, but how would I include the schema for the states.xml file...it appears Infopath automatically generates schemas for xml resource files, but I would like to include the schema I created for the files.

If the XSD files perform exactly the same you might be able to save your XSD file over the one created by InfoPath. However, I don't know how InfoPath would respond to this (might not like it).

Yes, I would do as Matt explained. Make sure the Namespaces are the same, it would fail for sure otherwise.
