I have a form with three sections 2 sections have submit buttons. What i would like to do is When the first section is filled out the first submit button is clicked it will make the first section read only then attach the form to an email and send it off to the next person, who will then fill out the next section click the second submit button which will then make the second section read only and attach the file to an email for the final review.

Can this be done?

Yes you can do that. You need to maintain a field in the xml that says that, that particular section is already filled. For ex:- isFilled atribute to the first two sections. And set isFilled to true when user clicks on submit button.

how do i attach the form to the email. When the first person clicks submit I want it to attach the form to an email make that section read only and email to the next person. So the next person can open the form and fill out the next section?

If you set the attachment name to the Email connection then the form will be sent as an Attachment.
You can set attachment name when you create the Email data connection, it is the last textbox in the Email dataconnection wizard.

You can also do this in the code. EmailAdapter has an AttachmentName property, you can set the attachment name to that field.

I just started using infopath and i am kind of lost.

can you give an example of script for attaching the form when the user clicks the submit button. I would prefer the code method.

Here is the code for setting the attachment name,

I used the above code and was able to attach the form. But now i can't open the form from the email

any ideas?

What is the error message that you are getting when you try to open the attachment?

I was able to figure out how to email....not what i can't seem to figure out is how to make the first section read only.

When the first submit button is clicked it will make the first section read only and leave the secnd section editable.

could someone provide some sample code for how to do this. I figure it would be having the submit button change the value of a field to true or false but i can't seem to hide a control. is there a way to set a variable in code then have the button click change the value and then if the value of that variable to true then set the section to read only?

Hi DRobins
Put the control in a section. Double click on the section and go to Display tab. Click conditions and add a condition based on the true-false field you have in your main data source.

Unfortunately the only option i'm given with that is to hide the section. I want the section to be visible but read only.

just wondering if i can set a section to read only rather than going through and setting each individual control to read only based on the value of the true/false field

Well, button controls won't be read-only since they don't have a text input field. For the others, you should be able to click properties on the text field and set to read-only.
