VB.Net and InfoPath, How well do they dance?

    Howdy Folks,

New poster here and I'm trying to get some info on InfoPath. Big question of the day is... Can VB pass either part of or a full SELECT statement to an existing InfoPath form to filter data when it loads?

    Any help would be awesome,

    Wayne

Hi Wayne, Welcome to the Forum!
If I understood your question correctly, Yes filtering can be done using VB.net code for an existing InfoPath form.
But InfoPath has Filtering as an in built functionality, its easy to use.

    Thanks Agni for responding!

Basically InfoPath would be acting like a child of the VB app.
If I have John Doe pulled up in the app, I would only want to see John's stuff in InfoPath.

If you could throw me a rough example to get me started it would be most helpful.

    Thanks Again,

There is an easy way for this Wayne, You need to maintain a variable in InfoPath's secondary dataconnection and filter your data based on that.
As Per your example if "John Doe" is pulled up in the app you will put this value in the secondary xml.

Once you put the value in the secondary xml its all InfoPath's work to filter the data in the UI. For filtering go to the properties of your Repeating Section/Table, Go to display tab. Here you will have button for filtering, clicking on it a dialog box appears where you can ad filters.

If you want to do the same thing it VB, you need to pull out the Nodes (with help of xpath) which have "John Doe" and put them in the InfoPath's data connection(XML) which is mapped to the UI.

    Hope this Helps!
