Auto populate a word document once an IP form has been approved.

Hi All. I'm new to the forum and not quite sure where to post this but here it goes anyways: I have been given the task to auto fill a word document in once an IP form has been approved. The problem lies in the fact that once the form is approved, it creates a document set that is populated with a set number of documents. I would need the meta data from the IP form to be put into the word document automatically once the form has been approved, so after the document set has been created and the documents have been auto populated, the Meta Data needs to be inserted into the word document. Ive tried an SPD (SharePoint Designer) workflow to update the document and have edited the document to contain fields such as customer name, project number etc, but i cannot get it to work. Does anyone else perhaps have an idea or a tutorial they would be able to point me too? Many thanks, Claudo

Hi & welcome - the general forum is fine if you aren't sure where to post. Is this an on premises SharePoint install? Or Office 365? If on prem, you may be able to use Word Automation for this.

Hi Hilary. Thank you for the warm welcome. This is for Office 365.

So, Word Automation won't work, I think - someone recently posted here that technique no longer works in O 365. What have you tried? Was it like this tutorial? https://sharepointprojectbrad.wordpress.com/2013/06/10/create-word-2013-documents-from-sharepoint-2013-list-items/

Re: Auto populate a word document once an IP form has been approved.

Hi Hilary. Thank you kindly for the response. I have tested this out in our "Lab" subsite and i managed to get it working,, the only problem now is that I have a workflow on the form library to run whenever a form has been approved. This workflow then creates a document set and names that set according to whatever the Project Name is. Once this set has been created it then auto-populates the set with document templates. Once of which is a word document that i want the Meta Data from the IP form to pull into the word doc. The struggle im having is how would i go about finding the relevant document set (Using SPD) and fill that specific word doc in? For Instance: Document Set (Test 01) is created. Inside Test 01 Document Set there are 5 templates (4 are excel spreadsheets and 1 is a word document) How do i go about pointing the workflow to that specific Document set called Test 01 and filling that word document in with the meta data from the IP Form? I hope this makes sense?
