Copy Data from Secondary to Main Data Sources

    Hi

I am trying to display data from a Sharepoint list. Also want to filter data based on a criteria.

I have seen some postings about GetListItems but is too complex to do it the way it has been described in the How To section of the website.

I am trying to see if it can be done differently.

This is how i plan to do.

    * Define a Infopath Main data source to be similar to the Sharepoint
    list xml result set.
    * Define a secondary data source to get all the items from a sharepoint
    list.
    * Copy the data from Secondary data source to main data source.
    * Apply the filter on the main data source using infopath filters.(this i have to do because infopath does not allow filter on secondary data sources nor on the main data source if it is from a sharepoint list)

What i need help with is, what is the easiest way to copy data from main data source to secondary data source. I have not coded much in infopath before.

    Any help will be appreciated.

I have a knack for finding the Rube Goldberg way of doing things sometimes, this may be one.

I'm not familar with sharepoint, but I'm assuming it has a primary key field like that in access. If thats the case:

Have a repeating section bound to a table in access or something. Make sure theres an extra field in the table, call it DummyPrimaryKey. Set the default value to position().

Make a rule in this field that sets the values of the other fields. Should look something like:
    Field: AccessField1

    Value: SharepointField1[SharePointPrimaryKey = current()]

Next, extract the form files. Open up the "schema.xsd" and find the number of minimum occurences to that table. Change it to something large or the number of entries in your sharepoint database.

Save it, close it, run it. See if it works.
