Change Control: Hyperlink Flickers then disappears?

Hi all, I'm new to Infopath but wanted to share what's happening to see if any of you may be able to help: I have a list in sharepoint that contains information on different products, with each product having an infopath form filled out for it (product details, numbers, help information etc.). There were so many attachments that I wanted to add for each product that I decided to create a separate document library just to help keep the documents organized. My thought was that I could simply add a link in the infopath form to the document in the document library, and we'd have one place to keep all documents nice and organized. Now, I'm wanting to show hyperlinks of those documents in the document library in the infopath form for each associated product. I've gotten it all to work so far with creating a site column that looks-up corresponding fields that match both on the list and document library. In other words, if I have a form that is filled out for product A, then it will show information on the different document library (I added it as a data source) of documents for that same product A. The problem is I want to show a hyperlink that can be viewed in Infopath so that someone can click on the link, and have it take them to the corresponding document in the document library. I thought the change-control hyperlink would be perfect for this, but when I change it, it disappears? For example, say that I have a field named 'Title' for the document library, if I bring in that title field to the infopath form it will show correctly when in view mode/edit mode. If I change that title field (which was originally a text field) to a hyperlink filed, it will show the hyperlink properties as a link to XPath: "d:Title". I then open the infopath form, and for like a SECOND, it will flicker the link correctly. But after that first second, the link disappears, and nothing is shown. It just goes blank. If I click on that view again (there are 4 views on the infopath form, the view that I have for these links is the 'Supporting Material' view) it again will flicker when I first click on it, then disappear? I've even tried dragging in the insert-hyperlink thing (from the insert menu, not from the control side), and linking it to the data source ' title'. This way it at least showed the hyperlink without disappearing in the form, but when I click on the link it just pulls up an about:blank IE site. I then tried grabbing the full XPath (by right clicking on the datafield for Title and copying the xpath), then pasting that xpath into the link to:Address area, (so the Link To address showed: /dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:SharePointListItem_RW/d:Title) . But now it pops up a Dialog window stating the address is not valid. Any tips to help this show? Any other ideas on how I can have multiple links on an infopath form that take you to the corresponding document in a separate library? Thanks in advance for your time and help, -Will

Are you using the Hyperlink from the Insert tab on the ribbon? Or from the controls? It sounds to me like you want to use the Insert > Hyperlink and then you can bind that to your field that has the URL.... Do you have a column in your secondary data source with the URL to the item?

If I use the hyperlink from the insert tab on the ribbon it will display an active link, however when I click it it goes to an 'about:blank' page (I'm setting the link to data source to d:Title, and the Display data source to d:Title). When I use a hyperlink from the control side it shows an active link but only for like 1 second, then it disappears and won't show on the page. I can't test if that hyperlink actually works because it disappears before I can click it. It seems like it may be the same issue they had here: http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/25826/100781.aspx , but I didn't understand what he did to fix it.

I wouldn't think the title column from your secondary data source has a URL, would you? I'd assume that is why it goes to "about:blank", wouldn't you?

Yeah, that would make sense. I guess I was expecting sharepoint/infopath to know the location of the item and link to it internally, since it had the option to link to items within the selection menu. Going off your line of thought, I was able to find what I needed! The solution was to drag in an insert-hyperlink (from the insert tab, NOT the control), then set the data source to a hyperlink created such as: concat("http://mysite/Documents/Forms/DispForm.aspx?ID=", d:ID) By doing this, it linked the ID field I was looking for with the correct document library items I wanted to show. It works, THANK YOU! -Will

Perfect, glad you got it sorted out. It is safest to assume that SharePoint is NOT going to help you with these matters in InfoPath, as you learned. ;)
