Formatting Rules for Dynamic Form Triggered by Drop Boxes

I have a decent form going that works really well with the exception of 1 portion. Allot of the form uses formatting rules to only display sections based on drop down or check boxes.

The portion that is giving me trouble involves a "section" that has information relevant to one of the choices in 1 of 3 drop down boxes. There are three boxes because the requestor can have up to 3 choices. Each drop down list has the same choices and the data is pulled from a list on the server. The idea is that if any of the 3 drop down boxes selects the targeted option, then the section would appear giving them the information that they need.

    My logic pointed me to

Rule 1 - drop down #1 is not = to "Selected Option" then hide control

Rule 2 - drop down #2 is not = to "Selected Option" then hide control

Rule 3 - drop down #3 is not = to "Selected Option" then hide control

With this, the first box can trigger the section but none of the others do. If I alter drop downs 2 or 3, then the triggered box disappears. If I delete rule 2 and 3 then box 1 works, the section appears, even if boxes 2 and 3 are activated. As long as that section is tied to a drop down box, no other boxes that are tied to it can trigger the section. It feels like the answer is so easy and I'm missing it. Could it be because the choices in the boxes all come from the same list?

I've tried playing with the "and" vs "or" and haven't had much luck. It is "and" right now but I admit that understanding the difference is a weakness of mine.

Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.

Hey, Mark - can you attach your form in a reply under the Options tab?

Re: Formatting Rules for Dynamic Form Triggered by Drop Boxes

     Hi Hillary,

Just by you asking that question, I was able to find the issue. I should have trusted my gut. I work in healthcare and had HIPPA concerns about forwarding the form. I opted to recreate a faux form to create the same problem. Except this time it worked. The only difference between the faux form and the actual is that the drop down options, in the actual form, come from a SharePoint list on the server.

So if I manually enter the options, it works. If I try to auto-populate the list options, using a SharePoint list, it does not. The only problem is there are north of 30 options and they are like to change. The idea was that I would only have to maintain this list and the options would change accordingly. Now if a change is made I have to make that change at all 3 boxes.

But at least it works. It has been driving me crazy for a while now.

    Thanks for your help!

Hmmm - well, I know I'd want to store my options in SharePoint rather than update a form. :) At any rate, if you decide to revisit this and want to recreate the issue in a test form, drop a copy of the template here & I can take a look. I'm out of the office next week, so it would be the week of the 15th. :)
