    Advanced Conditional Rules

     Hello,

I have a form that has 7 questions, with Yes/No responses (radio buttons) available for each question.  If questions number 3 & 7 get a "Yes" response, I have set up a rule to send an email notification. However, I also want the form to send an email notification if there are 3 or more "Yes" responses within those 7 questions. Is there a way to set up the latter without getting into permutations/calculations and setting up hundreds of rules for the many ways you can get 3 or more "Yes" responses? Thanks!

Oh wow - so just earlier today I put together a sample form for calculating scores from questions that I think may help you. I've attached it. I realize it isn't exactly specific to your scenario - what I did was add a section for sending an email that shows / hides based on question answers (just so you can see how you might approach this with a repeating schema). Save the attached file locally, right click and select design, from there you can preview / take a look at the design / etc.

Thank you!! That saved me time for the "Yes" responses for questions 1-7 but now, how would I isolate questions 3 & 7 to make a rule for them? I'm editing the expressions, trying to see if I can isolate the questiontext and then create a rule.

Take a look at the formatting on the section - you'll see I used an index, for example, the following returns true if question 7 is yes: my:Question[7]/my:Answer = 1

The XPath will vary based on where the rule is.

Got it! I'm no expert by any means.  InfoPath has really been trial and error for me over the last year because some features improve the capabilities of SharePoint. But seeing your sample really helped so I could click around and customize. And in roughly three hours I'm pretty close to done. I have a little more editing to do, but the form does exactly what I needed as described above. So glad I don't have to plug in thousands of rules. Much appreciated & thanks for the responsiveness! -Jess

Oh you bet - repeating nodes (when the design can leverage it) REALLY saves time and effort. As you can see. :)

Ok. I spoke to soon. I made all edits in the form via InfoPath and it was doing what I needed to do, but then I realized I needed to publish to SharePoint, and it's not going smoothly.

How would I begin to create this type of form from scratch with these repeating tables so that it works with SharePoint.

Usually I create the list/library, then I go to list settings/ form settings and modify the form once it opens in InfoPath. But I'm unable to modify the infopath form fields as they appear to be locked.

I usually start in InfoPath designer and select the type of form I intend to use. When I publish, I create the form library as part of the publish process - then I add a submit data connection to the library and publish again.
