corrupted form - what to look for after exporting files

I have one IP 2010 form that, after I change its design, all of the Action Rules disappear for the buttons. The form is published to a Site Content type, in a location with versioning, so thankfully I can retrieve the last known-good copy. If I Export Source Files and file compare the known-good manifest with a corrupted manifest, I can see that the corrupted manifest is missing a section (below). Any idea what could cause this? It's happened several times with this particular form. Many other forms I've created/modified are just fine. Thank you.

<xsf:menuArea name="msoInsertMenu">
<xsf:menu caption="&Section">
<xsf:button action="xCollection::insert" xmlToEdit="group4_529" caption="group4"></xsf:button>
<xsf:button action="xOptional::insert" xmlToEdit="deptHeadCertGrp_730" caption="deptHeadCertGrp"></xsf:button>
<xsf:button action="xOptional::insert" xmlToEdit="chairCertGrp_734" caption="chairCertGrp"></xsf:button>
<xsf:button action="xOptional::insert" xmlToEdit="chairCertGrp_743" caption="chairCertGrp"></xsf:button>
<xsf:button action="xOptional::insert" xmlToEdit="officeGrp_752" caption="officeGrp"></xsf:button>
<xsf:button action="xOptional::insert" xmlToEdit="officeGrp_755" caption="officeGrp"></xsf:button>
</xsf:menu>
</xsf:menuArea>

How odd. The section you've pasted has to do with the widgets for inserting optional sections - not regular button controls and their rules.... is this the only difference? Can you add a good manifest and a bad one to a zip and attach to a reply under the options tab? I'd like to take a look. :)

Thank you Hilary. Attachment attached :)

I think the corruption happens only on my local copy after a publish. If I click SAVE before I click PUBLISH, seems to help.

I'm so appreciative of all the support ya'll provide. --Susan

Can you point me to the missing action rules on buttons in the "bad" one? I don't see any buttons in group 4... the submit button still has its rule in both....

Sorry, I'm trying again with a new upload and a screenshot from the bad manifest. The good manifest has a Close action; the bad manifest is blank for same button. When I do a file compare this time, it looks like there are a lot of differences. I hope these are comparable manifests -- have to admit I am struggling to identify one good and one bad from the ~20 publishes I've done. Thank you.

Yeah- actually, in the one marked Good vs the one marked Bad, I do see buttons in the manifest that aren't associated with rule sets. But in the good one, the "exit" button doesn't have any rules on it ... I'm not sure which button is supposed to have the Close action? At any rate, if you find that saving prior to publishing is preventing this perhaps that is just the best course of actions.

Yes, from now on I will save before publish. Thanks for wading through my mess :)
