    Save from Sharepoint

    Hi,

I'm quite new to InfoPath and SharePoint technology, but I've a developed a form to manage the projects in my organization. This form is also used to produce a powerpoint with the status updates. The solution so far works by downloading the ppt template from a Document Library, updating all fields and saving it back to SharePoint. The drawback is that it requires Full Trust security level.

Would you advise if using the Qrules and Web Services would be possible to download the file keeping Domain security level? I have read the guide on how to use DSNAMEWS to perform the opposite operation, but it seemed nobody has ever needed to accomplish my same need.

    Thx

I don't think that there is anything in qRules that could do this - you are downloading the file to a local location, then updating (all via code) then writing it back to SharePoint? I wonder if this would be helpful: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee945362(v=office.12).aspx

Hi Hilary, thanks a lot. First of all, let me tell you that you are my hero, because reading through this forum you did help me in many issues I had while developing the form... :-) My experience in coding is very limited. I'm more a final user... Basically, all the code has already been created and it works fine. The issues I faced were given by providing the credentials to access to SharePoint. The company implementation requires a two steps sign-on. UserID and Password first and then a token received by SMS. So all experiments to get the file by using WebServices within the code failed as I would need to pass this double sign-on mechanism. Some better programming skills are required that what I have. On the contrary, WebDAV relies on the fact that InfoPath shares the credentials with Internet Explorer, so I do not need to login again. However, it requires the form to be full trust, maybe because the sharepoint folder is seen as Local System. On the contrary ,I saw that using the SavetoSharepoint feature does not require full trust. So I was wondering if I could use something similar but going in the opposite direction or, alternatively, get some good hints on how to proceed from you gurus. Thx Elio Edit: Related to your advice, I'm already using the in-memory approach, so expect it not to be the cause of the Full Trust requirement

Oh, I see. I'm sorry, I don't think anything currently in qRules does this - in the Filler, we use an Http web request to upload the file, and in the browser, we use the SharePoint object model.

Just to give an update on which solution I decided to pursue...

I tried first to use the Copy web Services from InfoPath. this added a new secondary Connection. I then mapped the value of the STREAM field (which is supposed to be a base64 encoded String) to a File Attachment control to no avail. My feeling is that the encoding is not the same... For the same file, the output I get by attaching the file to the File Attachment control is completely different from what I get from the Stream value. I wish somebody could explain the difference...

Therefore, I have created a SharePoint List having a Multiline text column which stores the encoded PowerPoint template files as text (instead of a file attachment). It's then quite straightforward to get that text into InfoPath and run the rest of the code. The output file is then attached to the form, so that the user can open it and do all the needful.

     cheers
