    List and "other" Field

I am trying to create a drop down list that contains the 10 most common options but also have an "other" field if the choice is not in the list using the same field in the DB. Is this possible?

    Hi Derrick,
Yes, just use a checkbox for other that changes the dropdown into a text box. You'll want to use a conditional section around both the dropdown and the text box and add display conditions to hide if the checkbox is not set or set. We do this all the time. Good luck!

Thank You Patrick, I was wondering if you could elaberate further on how this is accomplished?

    1. Can both the checkbox and drop down be tied to the same field in a sql DB?
    2. How do you change the dropdown to a text box?

Trying to get a handle on how this all works, just my second week working with InfoPath. Thanks!

    Re: List and "other" Field

I will explain what I am trying to do in a little more detail:

The field is collecting the customers name. Right now it is a dropdown list that includes the 10 of the most frequently used customer names. I need to add an optional box for other. The problem I am running into is this is connected to a SQL DB and am not able to bind both controls to the same field. Any help would very much appreciated!! Thank You!
