I have a SharePoint Form Library set up with an InfoPath template linked to it. The first 2 users tried opening documents from SharePoint opened the file successfully.
Any additional users are seeing IE open the file with a whole host of code (I assume in XML language). It's extremely frustrating as the settings and permissions are all identical for all users however some can open Attachments from SharePoint and some cant.

It is worth noting that SharePoint is running on SharePoint Server 2007 and everyone has InfoPath 2007 and InfoPath 2013 installed on their machines. I have spent days scouring through forums and tried almost every suggestion. Nothing has worked.

An example of the code that the user is seeing is:

Hi, I know how frustrating it is!   

We also encountered that, and some were recovered with the workaround described in the following link. There are some cases that this still does not fix the issue, though it seems worth to try.

 Many thanks for your reply. Would the workaround listed in your response be needed on every computer who wants to open the file (as there are hundreds and wont be feasible) or just mine as the developer?

The workaround fixes the issue on O365 / Browser which is client side. so, I'd advice to try this solution on computers that experience the issue.... unfortunately. Though, not all machines with O365 encounter this issue, and only a few, and we haven't figured out exact condition when it happens.

Just to update you and any others who are suffering the same issue, I would like to post how I resolved the error.

It involves changing the registry. Instructions are as follows:

Open Regedit.exe and navigate to key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\text/xml

Change the value for the CLSID member to be {807583E6-5146-11D5-A672-00B0D022E945}

The above class ID is for Internet Explorer to open XML's in InfoPath.
