    Copy a Multiple selection Listbox

     Hi,

I need a little help figuring something out. I have a multi-select list box which I've disabled changes so nobody can change any values. That is until, an "Edit" button is clicked and removes the disable status and allows changes.

What I would like at this point. When the Edit click event takes place. To make a copy of the total list box "A" or hide it as the primary copy and allow the user to make changes in a copy "B". Then when the time comes for these changes to be approved, make the copy "B" into the primary "A" and clear "B".

This will also cover issues if the approver rejects the changes or cancels the event, I can just clear B and re-instate A into view ( this way nobody need to try and remember what A looked like before changes)

Hope you understand, and thanks in advance

    Mike

     Hello Mike,

Since multi-select list box is repeating fields, we need some technique to copy it... Qdabra Software recently had webinar on how to copy repeating table, which introduces some techniques. It is uploaded to YouTube, so you can get some idea...

Kaoru, thanks for your reply, I've looked at the webinar and its very good. I'm just not getting anything from it, nothing in the way of being able to translate the same method or technique and use it with a multi-select box? Repeating tables and list boxes seem to be completely different, structurally and visually and I can't see a way for me to grab any data from the list box and copy it to another list box. You don't by chance have a small demo using multi-select list box do you? Thanks again, Mike

    Hi Mike,

Multiple list boxes is also using repeating table as its data structure, a little bit special style. and qRules copy table technique seems to work with multiple list boxes. Hope attached sample would give you some idea... (it's in InfoPath 2010 browser form...)

     Kaoru,

Thank you for the sample, it works a treat and is exactly what I'm after.. perfectly. Copy A to B brilliant.

At this moment I'm trying to decipher how this works and what bits I don't need? obviously on my form I'll only have two list boxes A & B - I'm hoping not to need the repeating tables as you've shown in the example.

I just need to work out if I need the command field and if not how to avoid setting a command field with this = CopyTable /tablesrc=/my:myFields/my:groupA /rowsrc=my:MultipleSelection /tabledest=/my:myFields/my:groupB /rowdest=my:MultipleSelection /empty=yes

and just copy the listbox values groupA to groupB.

    Looking promising though!

Thanks again.. Oh BTW, I'm relatively new to InfoPath so please bare with me.

    Regards,

    Mike

Re: Copy a Multiple selection Listbox

    Hi Mike,

For your information, I used the Qdabra qRules tool (which enables various feature without writing code, but just command) in the sample, and the command is essential...  qRules has free trial version with expiration date.

'just copy the listbox values groupA to groupB' may not so simple - since multiple check box is using repeating table with specific way, I am afraid other techniques introduced in the webinar is not applicable (they need additional fields in repeating table). thank you!
