Multiple Selection Box from SharePoint list. Problem with Column Filters

    Dear all,

I hope I can explain my issue.  I am building various SharePoint lists in InfoPath and came across an issue with multiple selection boxes.  I add the box and then in the properties I get choices from external data, in this case another SharePoint list.  All is fine except when saving and publishing the list.

When you want to filter the SharePoint list using the header column drop-down filter, all I get is the default Enter choice #1, Enter choice #2 etc and not the values from the SharePoint list.  The reason for doing it this way is so it is easier to maintain the list using another SP list rather than for someone to go into List Settings and modify the column to add the entry.

Is there a way of doing this or some other workaround?  I considered creating a second field for every one of these types of boxes and doing a rule that updates the second field with the values and use that in the view.  Messy.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks - Jon

Oh, this is really interesting - I have a client who has the same issue on their SharePoint 2010 site - but on my test SharePoint 2010 site, the filter options display the actual data available in the list, NOT the options available in the column's settings. What version of SharePoint are you using? Do you know if any updates have been installed? Can you reproduce this in another list, by maybe creating a choice column, entering some data in the list, and changing the option available in the choice column (so you have data in the list that doesn't match your current options) and see what the filter looks like?

     Hi Hilary

I am running SharePoint 2010 SP2 at the moment.  I am wondering if it's because a multi box cannot be a lookup.  You would think it would be clever enough to use the distinct values in the lookup source to display in the filter wouldn't you.

If you do manage to find out how your client managed it please let me know!

     Thanks
