    Rules problem

I'm trying to enter a rule for a field on a form, which involves conditions of other fields on the form.  Specifically:

If [field on the form] is Null and [another field on the form] is > or equal to the absolute value of $xxx and [another field on the form] <> Null, then enter "Complete" in the field.

No matter what I do I can't enter this as a rule (or rules) for that field.

I'm complete new to InfoPath and so I know I'm doing something (or a lot of things) wrong.  If someone could direct me to the how-to on the rules, that would be great.  The Microsoft how-to wasn't very helpful on this.

    Thanks in advance.

Hello! I understand the feeling... you have 3 fields as a condition, and also each of them should be the trigger. Since rule can be assigned to fields or button, and run only when the field is updated or the button is clicked, we may introduce a "Trigger". Attached sample form would be of your help. (COMPLETE if {A is blank} & {B is grater or equal 100} & {C is not blank})

    Steps:

    1. create new field Trigger. set rules for all 3 fields that set Trigger = 'ON', when the field is modified.

    2. add a rule to Tigger:  if the 3 conditions you mentioned are filled, then set Result = 'COMPLETE'.

    3. Then clear Trigger = ''. Also check 'Don't run remaining rules if the condition of this rule is met'

    4. you may also clear COMPLETE, if user modified field(s), and the condition is no more satisfied. So add the last rule to set Result = ''.

Thank you so much for your reply!

Is this Trigger function available in InfoPath 2007?  I created the field but the rules screen does not resemble the one in your picture.

You can create the same rules in InfoPath 2007, but the dialog boxes will look a little different (as you've seen). You need to add a new rule with the conditions outlined as Kaoru describes in her post.

Also attached a sample xsn. It's in InfoPath 2013, so a little bit different from 2007 version, but I hope this would be of some help....

Rules are added to all 3 fields, and also on Trigger.  thanks,

Unfortunately your xsn won't open because it's in a newer version.  Can you send me a screenshot, instead?

Sorry, and thanks for your patience and help.

I saved it as a 2007 version, so you should be able to download this file, right click and select Design to open in design mode.

It's still giving me the same error message, saying it's in a newer version.  Very frustrating..................

Sorry, I attached the wrong file. I updated the file in my post above to the correct one.
