Send email to original form submitter

    Hi

I have a form,  where users go in and make fill in the first part of the form.

It's submitted to a form library,  and another user will approve the request by checking the box and saving.

What I would like to do next is have the form then do is email the original person who first submitted the form,  an email.   I thought I could create a secondary connection,  and connect to the list and the 'created by' field to get the person's email.

It almost works,  but in SharePoint the field has additional data.

    Looks something like

    i:-0#.f| membership | <<Then the email is here>>

Is there a way to strip off the bolded part and just maintain the email address?

I'm trying to make this as automated as possible,  so a user doesnt' have to enter their email address.

Or is there another way to go about sending the original person an email?

This is a browser based form too.

Sure - use substring-after(CreatedBy, "i:-0#.f| membership |"), selecting the "CreatedBy" field using the field picker. :)

I tried this and it fails. Do you know of any other ways to do this?

I'd put a calculated value on the form and set its value to the userName() function. If this is a browser form, publish and check the value in the browser. If this is a filler form, you should be able to just preview. The formula suggested here depends on what is returned.

Here is form with just a calculated value with the userName() function. If you are using browser forms, you need to publish to the browser to test. Save the attached file locally. Right click the saved file and select Design to open in design mode.

I use SharePoint Online and it cant connect to a server for your form. Any chance you could do a couple of screenshots of the settings?

I think you might have been trying to open the file from the link, instead of downloading and right clicking. Can you find the calculated value control InfoPath designer? Add that to a form view. For the value, in the formula editor, click the button for inserting functions. Find the user name function and select it.
