InfoPath - Access Denied cannot connect to Sharepoint list

Hello all. Obviously I am new here but I found a lot of great info reading some of the topics here. I have found many on the issue but not sure where to categorize this. Is there is a sticky post somewhere explaining the things that can cause an error like Access Denied when trying to connect to a Sharepoint list?

I am having this issue in 2 locations. On my internal network and also on VPN. I can connect to the site through SP designer. I can connect to it through browsing to the site. The site is in test mode so I had to add my host file to my machine to access it though. (Not sure if that impacts anything).  When I open a form and try to connect to the site in Infopath 2013 I get an error message that I cannot read. I did go to the event logs and found this though:

    InfoPath Editor

InfoPath has encountered an error. The operation failed. Access is denied.

    1202422

    15.0.4733.1000

I also get URL is invalid when publishing to a list but the list URL is valid. Maybe invalid because access is denied? But why Denied? I checked and I am the site collection owner and also manually added me to the trusted groups with full control in the SP Admin console.

So I am at a loss. I just keep getting the access denied error. Where all should I look? Thanks for the help and this is a great site.  My machine I am connecting with the on Windows 7. I am using InfoPath 2013 32bit. I am trying to connect to a Sharepoint 2013 site. Thanks

    Mod- Please move if needed

How odd and annoying. Do you have a different machine you can try with? A different user account? I usually try to start with whether the issue is machine or user account based, then go from there. If you create a new form, can you create a data connection to the list? Or is this all lists in a given site?

Re: InfoPath - Access Denied cannot connect to Sharepoint list

So here is the issue I am running into and maybe it is me because I am more adept on the other side of creating forms and using SharePoint than the back end. The account I am using is the site collection owner account. I tried connecting to e Connector and created a data collection library but when I try and search to add that database connector from that list url it says cannot find a connector in that url. I think in my configuration I missed something. I assumed that the connection was to the DB that the SharePoint site sat on. I think I am missing something here. Is there a guide to the anywhere out there on setting this up? I googled it and looked through some threads but I don't think I am asking to right question maybe?

    Thanks for your help

Hmmm. I'm not sure what "e Connector" is. It sounds like you created a data connection library, but didn't add any data connections to it? Is that maybe the case? What happens if you create a direct list connection in InfoPath? This link is for IP 2010, but the steps are pretty much the same for 2013 if that is what you are using: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ms772101(v=office.14).aspx

Re: InfoPath - Access Denied cannot connect to Sharepoint list

My apologies e connector was a typo. I was just saying I created a data collection library. I followed the instructions in the link you had provided. I had actually already tried this. I cannot for some reason get access to the library even though I am site collection owner. Infopath prompts me to log in to the site and i enter the AD credentials that I use to access directly and still get this error:

InfoPath Editor InfoPath has encountered an error. The operation failed. Access is denied.

    P1: 1202422 P2: 15.0.4763.1000 P3: P4:

That is from the event logs. So I have a data collection library. I copied the URL on that list. I open Infopath and create a blank form and then hit "Design Form". I then click on data connections. I hit add and open the wizard and select receive and from a SP list. I add the Data Connection library URL and that is what I get the silly message I Cannot read because it is chopped off. I then go to the event logs and that is the error above I keep getting. I have full access and I am the Farm and site collection owner and admin.

    I am at a loss.

Is the site in your local intranet in IE settings?

Are you referring to how I view and access the Sharepoint site? It is not in trusted sites or intranet sites. The farm is on a 2008R2 box and I built the farm there and the SP admin console is there. I created the farm and I am accessing it fine. I did have to manually add an edit to my local machine host file to get to the site but once there I just log in with my AD account and I am fine. Could it be that Infopath isn't acknowledging my host file edit? So I can get to the site in IE but not through Infopath?

Re: InfoPath - Access Denied cannot connect to Sharepoint list

I am asking if the site is in your intranet sites or trusted sites in IE. I'm asking that because IP uses IE for security - and I really don't know about how or whether IP is leveraging info in your hosts file. I think you are saying that you get an access denied error in InfoPath even just creating a list connection without trying to use a UDCX? Sorry - I just am not sure why you can't create a connection to your list.

BOOM! I tried adding it to the trusted sites and it wouldnt allow me to add a site without https. I then unchecked the box and now I can connect! Thanks for your help. That got me looking in he right direction
