If this is NOT an Office 365 Browser form, you could use the SharePoint listdata.svc and a filter - http://www.benstegink.com/sharepoint-list-rest-query-filter-contains/ has an outline.

I understand that you want to use a filter in InfoPath. I am suggesting you create a REST query to the SharePoint listdata.svc, then in InfoPath use the Change REST URL action to add a filter, then query the REST data connection. While this tutorial is for IP 2010, you should be able to follow along with IP 2013: http://johnliu.net/blog/2012/4/26/infopath-2010-query-using-the-rest-interface.html

Re: Wildcard Text filter infopath 2013

When I tried to add the below formula to the submit button rule I am getting error. concat("https://server/_vti_bin/ListData.svc/Equipment_federal?$filter=substringof('", EquipmentSearch, "', tolower(DESCR)) eq true") error is : "EquipmentSearch" does not point to a valid location path of a field or group. ( EquipmentSearch is the text box filter and DESCR is the column in the list.)

You picked the field using the field picker when you set up the rule to change the REST URL? EDITED TO ADD - you should use the field picker to select equipment search, if you did not already.

When you enter the value for the rule, you'll click the Fx button to open the formula editor. After you paste in your formula, delete the text that says EquipmentSearch. Click the button that says Insert field or group. Navigate through the main data source to find your Equipment Search field. Select it. Try to verify the formula.

I have used this formula and selected fields using field picker. concat("https://[server]/_vti_bin/ListData.svc/Equipment_federal?$filter=substringof('", EquipmentSearch, "', tolower(DESCR)) eq true") Where EquipmentSearch is textbox name selected from MAIN data source and DESCR is selected from query fields of secondary data source but am getting this error. Error: Expected value type: , Actual value: name concat("https://[server]/_vti_bin/ListData.svc/Equipment_federal?$filter=substringof('", my:EquipmentSearch, "', tolower(xdXDocument:GetDOM(" -->Equipment_federal

I have changed the fields in the formula first I Used DESCR and then EquipmentSearch. Now I am not getting any error but the filter is not working. I have added Change REST URL and Query Data to the submit button.

Re: Wildcard Text filter infopath 2013

Test the URL your Change Rest URL rule should be creating - take the same formula you are using there and add it to the form in a calculated value, so you can see what the URL is. Try the URL in your browser's address bar. If the filter does not work, try making modifications to the URL until you have the syntax right. Sometimes IE will return a message that the content can't be displayed, but you can use view source to determine if your filter is returning data.

Re: Wildcard Text filter infopath 2013

I Used this formula concat("https://[server]/_vti_bin/ListData.svc/Equipment_federal?$filter=substringof('", DESCR, "',my:EquipmentSearch) eq true") and its working fine and the URL also fetching XML data when I opened in a browser(https://[server]/_vti_bin/ListData.svc/Equipment_federal). The form fetching data with other filters except this equipmentSearch filter. Am I missing something in infopath to link with the formula ??
